“OCD” Mom

Instantly Cured

Oh my. If you are OCD, and longing for the day when your child begins to “clean like you do”…..I hate to burst your bubble – but let me just go ahead and warn you now.

Back in the day, when I was a single mom of 3 children, I used to be like that (completely OCD about housecleaning/organizing, etc.), and it drove my kids crazy. It was to the point that we literally ended up bickering our way through several therapy sessions ($$$) over it.

The children (all under 12) told the therapist how I was “driving them crazy” with constant housecleaning, and harassing them to do the same. After all, these little “apples” did fall from my tree!

Nevertheless, one day, my precious middle child was invited to be on the 6 o’clock news to be interviewed for getting a Big Sister with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. When the news anchor asked her what she likes to do for fun, THIS is what she told the entire viewing audience of Houston, Texas (in her sweetest most innocent little girl voice): “We don’t have a lot of things to do because we’re usually so busy cleaning house.” 😦

Surely, feeling like they had misunderstood her, they asked a SECOND time to clarify. And the second time, she said the exact same thing AGAIN!!!

I was INSTANTLY cured of MY problem :/

Mama Learns to Spell

I had a memory about my mom today (born in 1924). When she was a small child in school, they didn’t study “Math”. They studied “Arithmetic”.

They didn’t have “notebooks” for school. They had “compositions.”

This is how she learned to spell “Arithmetic” and “Composition”.

“Arithmetic”:
A Rat In Tom’s House Might Eat Tom’s Ice Cream” 🙂

“Composition”:
Come On Mama, Pass On Sister, Ivy Told Ida On Nell” 🙂

Singing in My Dreams

So last night I was singing “in my sleep” (until I woke myself up with it). I was trying to sing two different verses to Harold. I was struggling to make them sound like I knew they should sound. (Of course wearing a CPAP mask didn’t help LOL!)  I could hear myself singing away, and just had to laugh at myself and go back to sleep (although I never fully woke up).

In the morning, I said, “Harold did you like my songs?”  He said, “What songs?”  Uh!  I worked so hard to sing for him and he missed it!  Oh well, at least ONE of us got some sleep 🙂

One dream interpretation says this:

“To sing in your dream represents happiness, harmony and joy in some situation or relationship. You are uplifting others with your positive attitude and cheerful disposition. Singing is a way to celebrate, communicate, embrace and express your feelings.”

Hmmm. Good to know!

Dream Journal……..”I’m Flying!”

Standard

So…….just the other day, I was telling God, “I wish I would have another one of those flying dreams. They are so cool.” Well, lo and behold, my wish was granted last night. It is the most awesome thing EVAR!

In the dream, I can just “think” of where I want to go and I go there just by heading that way in my mind. I can see buildings, people, trees, and whatever I want. I can fly low or I can fly high. I can even slowly fly around the ceiling of a room. Such a great feeling waking up – joyful and free!

“I’m Flying”

“Flying dreams fall under a category of dreams known as lucid dreams. Lucid dreams occur when you become aware that you are dreaming. Many dreamers describe the ability to fly in their dreams as an exhilarating, joyful, and liberating experience.

If you are flying with ease and are enjoying the scene and landscape below, then it suggests that you are on top of a situation. You have risen above something. It may also mean that you have gained a new and different perspective on things. Flying dreams and the ability to control your flight is representative of your own personal sense of power.

Another way of interpreting flying dreams is that these dreams symbolize your strong mind and will. You feel undefeatable and that nobody can tell you what you cannot do and accomplish. Such dreams are sure to leave you with a great sense of freedom.”

A Pity Party

A Party of One

hello-pity

“Pity Parties” are no fun; they are only held for a party of one.

One in a room all alone with their thoughts.

Fighting a battle that doesn’t need to be fought.

Today is a hard day.  I don’t know why.

I certainly didn’t go looking for it. I just want to cry.

Something just happened and I didn’t get my way.

Felt rejected, saw sad pics, heard sad news today.

Asked for what I needed, and didn’t get it.

Here came the tears. Felt like a child, now quit it!

Out of control. More tears. Hard to stop.

Too focused inward. That’s the problem I’ve got.

This isn’t a place where I want to be.

How did I get here so suddenly?

A moment ago I thought I was fine.

I’ve got it!  I don’t feel well!  It’ll get better with time.

It’s just harder on days when I don’t feel my best.

Ok, I’ll go with that. I’ll read, write, or take a rest.

That’s what I’ll do. Take special care of me.

“Pity Party” over.

No more self pity.
